Canada Wildfire Impacts ***Update #1***

Dear Valued Customer:

We previously notified you that the recent wildfires in central B.C. have heavily impacted terminal and rail operations in and out of Vancouver, BC.

Westwood remains in close contact with both rail suppliers, Centerm and Fraser Surrey terminals, as well as monitoring all communication from the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority (VFPA) and the Chamber of Shipping (COS).

  • The Minister of Transport issued a Ministerial Order ceasing all train movement, except for emergency fire response, maintenance, and repair work, between Kamloops and Boston Bar, B.C. for 48 hours. The Order took effect at 12:01 am PDT on July 9, 2021, and applies to both CP and CN rail lines routing through the BC interior area affected by the wildfires.
  • VFPA continues to note due to disrupted rail services, demand for large vessel anchorages currently exceeds capacity.

At this time, Westwood will continue not to accept port of discharge diversions or provide rail carrier alternatives for cargo discharging in Vancouver, BC.

We are committed to working with all parties involved to mitigate cargo delays that will result from the wildfires.

Our Sales and Customer Service Team will be in contact with you to provide additional information as to your respective shipments. While our thoughts are with those impacted by the devastation from the wildfires. Westwood apologizes for the inconvenience caused by this unfortunate event.

We thank you for your understanding and continued business support.
